Star-Crossed - S01E01-10 - Review

Aired: 17th February, 2014

Network: The CW

Cast: Aimee Teegarden, Matt Lanter, Chelsea Gilligan. (More information.)

Summary: About an epic romance between a human girl and an alien boy when he and others of his kind are integrated into a suburban high school 10 years after they landed on Earth and were consigned to an internment camp. (IMDb)

Genre: Romance | Sci-Fi

My initial thoughts when I saw this on my Facebook feed was an internal sound, it was a painful sound, like phlegm that scratched at my throat and wouldn't come up no matter what.

I'm even cringing at it now--"an epic romance between a human girl and an alien boy", immediately I knew I'd hate this, to me, this was the new Twilight, and I didn't even bother with it.

TWO MONTHS pass and we're in April (the end of April) and my friend, Kerry (the other admin here) said that she'd started to watch it and there was a Mean Girls-esque scene in it, and that was all it took to catch my attention.

I binged the first TEN episodes of this series in about seven hours, after the first episode, I couldn't stop watching, this wasn't the TV series I'd already created barriers against, this wasn't the soppy "epic" romance that the CW had dubbed it. This series is more than that, so much more. There's politics, race, injustice, serious issues, and they're all pulled into focus by introducing a new species that we, the human race can imprison etc.

Renewed or Cancelled?

The CW do this a lot, they allow its viewers to grow to love something i.e. The Secret Circle, and that damn cliffhanger, if you remember that, then leave it in the comments section and we an rally for a second season of it. I've heard from a few different places, and a few different people answers to my question. Some say it's being renewed and others are saying that it's being cut.

Personally, I want it to be renewed, but CW have so many shows and they pilot so many projects each year, it means that sometimes our new favourites have to suffer for the likes of The Vampires Diaries, which has been well and truly done--they should stick with The Originals now.

Anyway... I might do a post on the matter of CW and the heartless soulsucking corporation that's trampled over our poor viewing hearts, but that will have to be for another day.

Your thoughts?
I want to know what you think!

  1. I thought I told you about it..? I felt really informative, and I agree I enjoy the policital extremists of the future. I feel like this is exactly the way our world would react if an alien ship crash landed on Earth. We'd think it's an invasion.
In order to appeal to "young adults" I think that is why they have described the main plot line as this "epic romance".
Personally I enjoy the politics and the scientific Atrian plants and their many uses more enjoyable.

    1. You might have done, I think this was after I was all "ew romance, no thanks" but yep! Absolutely loving the background information that it's been giving. I think aiming it at these young adults is where the producers of this TV series have failed slightly.

I would've enjoyed it more if there was more government, instead of just army, I want more America... wait, AMERICA! With presidents, and maybe one of the Atrian's have integrated themselves as the president of the US...

Can the CW just make me a writer already.

  2. Yes. I like that idea. More hidden Atrians in society and not all of them Trags. I also have a soft spot for Teri even though she's a trag. She's super cool and stuff.

    1. I think if that was the case then they would be able to open THIS series up, giving more possibilities and it would make this series more capable of being renewed instead of what looks like an inevitable cancellation.

At the moment they're currently limiting themselves to that small ass town with their even smaller politics... a huge limitation.
